The vibes and feelings of the simple days of years past is still alive on the North Shore of Oahu, most notably in the community of Kahuku. Part of the Koolauloa District on the island, Kahuku is so named after Kahuku Point, the northernmost point of land on Oahu. The area’s 2,000 residents are relatively low-key as evidenced by the simple homes in the community. However, Kahuku is becoming a tourist attraction in its own right thanks to a number of dining trucks along the Kamehameha Highway that offer freshly caught shrimp and other seafood and attractive prices. The shrimp stands that have quickly become a phenomenon typically specialize in a special preparation of the marine delicacy.
